Bubba Takes Tiger’s Tournament by Three Shots

For a guy who wasn’t even planning on playing this week, Bubba Watson did pretty well.  Bubba initially declined his invitation to play the Hero World Challenge over concerns about obtaining a passport for his adopted daughter Dakota.  He told the tournament directors to keep his name in the mix if someone withdrew.  That’s exactly what Jason Day did to spend time with his newborn daughter.  When Watson got the call, his wife Angie expedited the processing by spending hours in the passport office and the Watson family headed to the Bahamas.

Bubba took a two-shot lead into Sunday after shooting 63 on Saturday.  He birdied four of his first seven holes in the final round on his way to 66 and an easy victory.

He also gave us another reason to continue loving or hating him:

He Will Retire If He Reaches #1 In The World?

“If I ever become No. 1 in the world, I’m walking away. I’m going to walk away on top.  But let’s be honest, nobody here’s voting on that, right? Everybody thinks I’m not going to do that.”

This was in response to a question about a statement he made in the past claiming if he got to 10 wins for his career he’d hang it up.  After clarifying he meant “U.S.” wins, we got the quote above.  Does that mean his haters should start rooting for him to go on a winning streak?

Rory Got Engaged

After a year together, McIlroy and Erica Stoll are engaged according to the Irish Independent.  Rory posted a photo from Paris on his Instagram account indicating the former #1 in the world proposed in style.

Stoll, a former employee of the PGA of America, was responsible for McIlroy barely making his tee time in the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah after the famous time zone gaffe.

This week we have the Franklin Templeton Shootout, PNC Father/Son Challenge, and some big names playing in the Thailand Open on the Asian Tour.

Have a good week.
