Wisconsin Man Tries to Leave Whistling Straits With Giant Omega Watch

Surely you’ve seen the giant watches at tournaments like the one pictured above.  Check out the guy that grabbed one and tried to take it with him.

Milwaukee’s Fox6 reported Hugo Nguyen, 24, from Sheboygan was arrested for theft after he tried to leave the site of the 2015 PGA Championship with one of the giant Omega watches displayed throughout the course.

Hugo could be looking at serving time.
Hugo could be looking at serving time.  Yes, that’s the best joke I could come up with.

According to police documentation, Nguyen was spotted  by an officer leaving Whistling Straits on Saturday during the third round with a “large Omega clock”.  When the officer questioned Nguyen about how he obtained the watch, he claimed he had won it from a putting competition.

Event security was notified and they eventually found Nguyen a half mile south of the main gate attempting to get on a bus with the large timepiece.

Nguyen is facing up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.

Representatives from Omega said the watch is worth $8,000 and is a fully functioning Omega product, however not for sale.  They claimed the only way to dislodge the watch from its mount would be:

“if someone had rattled the clock until a pin came undone which allowed them to take the clock.”

Omega has been a sponsor for the PGA Championship and Ryder Cup competitions since 2011.  They recently extended their deal through 2022 and will serve as the Official Timekeeper for the Olympics in 2016, when the sport of golf returns to the competition.

Omega is also the sponsor responsible for golf nuts across the country scrambling for the remote control when their commercial with Rory plays 10 times per hour every hour on Golf Channel.  “Standing in the Hall of Fame……”
