3 Jack Recap: Rory Wins Wells Fargo

Rory Wins in Tiger-Like Fashion

  • A final round 69 sealed a seven shot win at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, NC.
  • McIlroy finished 21-under par, breaking the tournament record by five strokes.
  • Rory opened a four-stroke lead on Saturday when he went nuts, carding a 61, breaking his previous course record he shared with Brandon de Jonge.
  • Rory running away from the field and cruising to victory reminded many, present company included, of those anti-climactic final rounds from Tiger when the only thing left to determine is the winning margin.

Since missing the cut at The Honda Classic, World #1 has finished no worse than 11th in 6 PGA events.  And that was with his “B” game (for lack of a better term).  He showed everyone (including World #2 Jordan Spieth) exactly what he is capable of this weekend.

Check out this breakdown of his approach shots on Saturday to get a better idea of his dominance.

John Daly’s 30 For 30

  • ESPN has announced Daly will be the subject of a new 30 for 30 movie.

His life has played out like fiction since 1991 anyway, so this should be a treat.

Minjee Lee Wins, Wie Withdraws from Kingsmill

  • Minjee Lee shot a final round 65 to win the Kingsmill Championship in Williamsburg, VA on Monday.
  • A rain delay on Sunday caused the final round to be called due to darkness and resumed Monday morning.
  • Michelle Wie withdrew after a first round 78 with a hip injury.

Roland Thatcher shot a final round 60 on the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am.  His bid for 59 came down to a birdie putt on the 18th green, which he left short (SHORT?) curling to the left and stopping an inch from the cup.

Jeff Maggert defeated Kevin Sutherland in the first sudden death playoff hole to win the Regions Tradition.

Next up: The PGA Tour will play the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial where Adam Scott defends his title.  The European Tour plays its flagship event, The BMW PGA Championship.

Chris Racic

Chris Racic lives and plays in NE Ohio. He works full time in the Financial Services industry and owns an absolutely horrendous short game. Chris chipped in for an eagle at Seven Hills Country Club in Hartville the day before his oldest daughter was born and is positive it’s some sort of sign.
