Johnny G’s 2015 British Open Fantasy Golf Picks

The time has come for the third major of the year. The British Open always marks two things:  Mid-summer and a turn back the clock in golf history.  Many people never knew the true roots of the game and the wispy grass and links style courses were it.

Expect to see a little more green and slower conditions this week though.  St Andrews has gotten more rain than normal, which leads me to believe that a long hitter is going to have an advantage this week, as carry yardage will be at a premium.  I still think it will take -20 to win here. Book that.

British Open Expert Picks To Win

1. Jordan Spieth – As a golf historian, I would love to see Jordan hit the 3rd leg of the grand slam.  He played great at the John Deere, so why not.

2. Sergio Garcia – I seem to be picking him quite a bit this year, but I do believe he will get a major before he is done.  His iron play and driving accuracy will allow him to have manageable birdie putts.

3.  Louis Oosthuizen – For some reason the 2010 champ here is not getting much press.  Mistake.  Louis is coming off the lowest 3 round total in US Open history.  Too bad the tournament counted Thursday…

4. Paul Casey- Another hot horse here, Casey is starting to play up to his abilities.  Expect a high finish this week.

2nd tier / Longshots to win 2015 Open Championship

1. Charl Schwartzel – He is much like Oosthuizen. Great ball striker than can have some great weeks.

2. Adam Scott – Not really a sleeper, but he has kinda gone from the next greatest thing to behind Spieth and McIlroy.  The Aussie is not 2nd tier though.  Expect a nice finish.

Total Sleepers to win British Open

1. Jamie Donaldson – You may remember him from his laser-like iron shot to finish off the US in the Ryder Cup. Expect more from the soft greens this week at St. Andrews. A great pick for the DraftKings league too, you can get him at a bargain price and he will not disappoint you.
