Edgewater Golf Club – Minerva Ohio

Edgewater Golf Club

A short drive from Canton Ohio, this backwoods course is one of the better deals in the area.  Playing on a weeknight, it was just $10 for riding 9 holes, which is well worth the price of admission.

Now, it is important to note tee selection is very important here.  The difference between the white tees and blue tees is nearly 500 yards over the full 18 holes, so I would recommend if you can drive the ball over 230 yards to play the blue tees for a little tougher challenge.

The front nine starts out with two birdie chances with short par 4’s for the first two holes.  Greens are small here, so be sure to not short side your self.

The third hole is probably the toughest on the side with a narrow fairway and trees lining each side, with a creek dissecting fairway. A very undulating green here so be sure to be on the right level.

Another birdie chance on the fourth before you come to a very sharp dogleg right 5th.  Be aggressive here and you could have a chip to the green or are stuck in the woods, your call.

The par 4 6th is short, but a huge bunker guards the large green.  The 7th is a short par 5 that can be reached in two for anyone that can drive the ball 250 or so. Be careful around the green, many 3 putts await.  The par 3 8th is a tough hole from the back tees and do not short side yourself.

This side ends with a tough hole from the back tees that brings water into play on the second shot.

Overall, the course in Mid June 2014 was in good shape considering all the rain. Actually, the rain helped soften the normally firm greens making scoring much more attainable.  Putts rolled smooth and the course was well maintained overall. A good affordable choice if you are looking for a place to play around the Minerva area.
