Johnny G’s DraftKings Sony Open PGA Lineup 2016

Wow, did Spieth put on a clinic last week or what? If that is a sign of things to come then look out PGA Tour.  So the “I don’t think I can afford Spieth this week” narrative wasn’t a sound strategy for cash tournament purposes, but we were able to cash in our 50/50’s to keep us on the plus side.

This week brings us to Hawaii once again with the 2016 Sony Open. It is the first full field event of the year, so there will be some new faces in the field for the first time.

As always, check back for the actual DraftKings PGA lineup early in the week.

The first player I love this week is the 2x defending champ Jimmy Walker. While his form was not great toward the end of last year, he has shot around 40 under par here the last two years, so I see little risk in putting him in my lineup. Same can be said of Harris English, who seems to blister this track as well.

Gary Woodland should be able to use his length to make a few eagles this week. Remember, eagles are worth 8 points in the DraftKings fantasy golf league.

Kisner is another star of the future who is really hot now. He’s never made the cut here, but that doesn’t account for his recent form.  I’ll be interested to see how he fares this week.

Also, for the lower tier players, I like Charles Howell III. CH3 banks money early in the year and then makes numerous top 40 finishes to become the richest guy you would not recognize on the street.

Adam Scott is one of the many guys that have no choice but to use a short putter or at least a non-anchored stroke. Should be interesting to see how well some of the guys perform, especially ones that have only played with the anchored stroke. At least Scott has putted both ways in his professional career.

And if you are picking Allenby this week, send us a comment…

January 14, 2016 Sony Open Fantasy Golf Lineup:

 GolferSalaryComments - Stats
1Matt Kuchar11500Kuch has had great success here recently. 8th or better in 4 of the last 5 years. I like him to win this year.
2Harris English10200We picked a lot this week, as you'll see, but English may be the biggest horse for this course. Last three years: 3rd, 4th, T9.
3Scott Piercy8500Piercy has been playing well lately. He's made 3 of 4 cuts here and finished 2nd last year. Plus, I like that he played last week so we know he's not cold.
4Jerry Kelly7400Jerry likes Waialae. 13th or better 6 times over the last 10 years, including top 10's last two years.
5Rory Sabbatini6500Sabbatini has a long, sometimes successful, history here. Only missed the cut once in the last 11 years, including two second place finishes and T6 last year. Good value here.
6Colt Knost5800The pride of Garrettsville, OH ranks highest on Tour with the putter (Top 30 in Strokes Gained & Total Putting), but first and foremost we need our punts to make the cut and he has 2 of the last 3 appearances.

Johnny Giovonni

Hi, my name is Johnny Giovonni. I am in the financial services industry and own my own business on the side. I work too much and golf too little. That is why I helped create this site, so I could at least have the dream of golfing everyday. Also, I am a huge numbers person and have researched many advanced gaming theories and other nerd stuff like the Rule of 72 and Benford's Law. When I am not working I am either golfing, watching sports, or researching statistics for my weekly and daily fantasy picks. I am under full belief there is an enormous advantage to be had with information when picking your lineups every week. I hope to bring that knowledge to this website. I look forward to writing and responding to your comments. Check out some of our course reviews, fantasy sports picks and as always, provide any feedback!
