Last week’s recap: Another tough week, but still hit 3 out of 4 golfers making the cut. Kevin Na contended until late, but still an overall below average week. We expect winners here, and will work on improving.
Starting this week, the fantasy golf posts will include a total of 4 picks, however, 2 will be the expert picks of the week and the other 2 will be somewhat sleepers. Many fantasy golf leagues have multiple groups or tiers to pick from, so by breaking up the picks it will give an insight into different strategies when picking your golfers for the applicable tournament.
Shell Houston Open Fantasy Picks
1. Jordan Spieth – Another top 3 last week. Jordan is looking to peak at the right time. This year is the year where he gets his first major. Look for the Shell to be a good warmup.
2. Sergio Garcia – When playing well he is one of the best golfers in the world. In a somewhat weak field this week, expect Sergio to use his laser like irons to make enough birdies to post a solid finish.
Now, onto the 2nd tier or group golfers for the week. They often are lesser known or just not playing well this year.
3. Angel Cabrera – Not a small tournament player, but he is getting ready for Augusta. If he can grab another green jacket, he could be in the mixes for hall of fame talks with his third career major. Look for him to crisp up those shots this week at the Houston Open down in Texas.
4. Phil Mickelson- Normally not a 2nd tier kinda of guy, in reality Phil has not shown much in the last year and a half. Concerned now for only majors, Phil might be able to play loose this week and post a solid finish. Either way, in the back of his mind the only thing that comes up is the US Open. Even Palmer and Watson do not have the career grand slam…
Should be an interesting fantasy golf week this week! Stay tuned.
