Johnny G’s DraftKings PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open Lineup 2016

How bout that weather Sunday at Torrey Pines? This week the PGA Tour goes to Arizona where hopefully the weather is much nicer. The 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open is here once again on Super Bowl Sunday. The tournament tends to wind down before the kickoff, so you should be able to enjoy your golf and football all on the same day. Two great fantasy sports in one day!

After looking at the field, a few names came to mind. Hopefully we can find another sleeper like we did with KJ Choi last week! I bet not many had him in their lineups. While it was a long-shot, him playing well at Torrey Pines should not have been a total surprise to hardcore golf DFS players.

In last week’s $100,000, $3 entry tournament, only 3% of entrants had all 6 of their golfers make the cut.  Six of the nine golfers priced at $10k and above missed the cut and a 7th, Patrick Reed, withdrew before the final round with an “ankle” injury.  Thanks to KJ and some wild weather, we doubled our money in the GPP and 50/50’s.

The first player that should be a favorite this week is Hideki Matsuyama. He has two solid finishes here of late and is one of the better young players on Tour. Also, look for Kevin Kisner to continue his hot streak. He is no fluke and could win 3 – 5 times this year. I truly believe that.

I also like Ryan Palmer this week. Always a threat here, he should make a ton of birdies.

Graham DeLaet is my sleeper of the week and should be a good value play in the 50/50 contests. Also, Charles Howell III always seems to get rich posting top 20 finishes in these kind of events.

I will have to do more research once the lineup salaries become available and will post the full lineup after that.

2016 Phoenix Open DraftKings Lineup

 GolferSalaryComments - Stats
1Hideki Matsuyama11000Hideki plays very well here albeit in a small sample. He's finished 2nd and 4th. His ball striking is a great fit for the course.
2Ryan Palmer9900Made 5 of his last 6 cuts at this tourney, including 2nd place last year and 5th three years ago.
3Ryan Moore8500All he does is make the cut at the Phoenix Open. 7 out of his last 7, with 5 of those finishes in the top 17 or better.
4Graham DeLaet7700Last week's poor performance should drive down ownership rates for the Lumberjack, which makes us like him even more. His last 2 years here: 7th and 2nd.
5Hudson Swafford6700Picking based on recent form here, having made 6 of 8 cuts this year. His length should boost his GIR % this week, which will be a key stat.
6Spencer Levin6100Qualities of a good punt? Streaky: Levin is cheap and has stretches of good play. Good course history: 2012 he finished 3rd here. Plus if he's in contention, we will get to watch CBS try to not catch him chain smoking his way around the course.
