In one of the two restrictor plate race tracks of the year (Daytona), anything can happen all race long and you can be leading with 2 laps to go and end up 26th. Very frustrating. For all you non-race lingo fans, a restrictor plate prevents the full amount of air into the carburetor, hence limiting horsepower and therefore speed. One of the reasons, see below:
Anyway, back to 2016 and the Geico 500. So with so much variability it can be tough to watch your fantasy Nascar lineup through the day. I like to grab a few guys in the top 5 qualifiers, thinking they will stay out of trouble and hopefully lead some laps. Then get some value guys that have some potential to win. Think Stenhouse, McMurray, Bayne, and Ragan.
Of the big boys, I like Jimmie Johnson, but I want to see qualifying, since point differential from start to finish is huge here. So many guys have best lap speeds and with less laps, the place differential becomes important. Also, rarely do people go a lap down here. I also am a big fan of Chase Elliot. He drives with no fear and will be aggressive. If you want more conservative drivers that could creep into the top ten, think Newman or Menard.
