Brooks Koepka Wins Euro Tour Rookie of the Year

Brooks Koepka has been named the Sir Henry Cotton European Tour Rookie of the Year for 2014.

Koepka collected four top 10 finishes this year, including a win at the Turkish Airlines Open on November 16, holding off Ian Poulter.  He finished 8th in the Race to Dubai, the year-long Euro Tour points competition equivalent to the FedEx Cup.

Americans have now taken Euro Tour Rookie of the Year awards in back-to-back seasons.  Peter Uihlein won the award in 2013.  Coincidentally, Koepka and Uihlein are roommates.  They share a house in South Florida.

“And now to win on The European Tour is special, and to win Rookie of the Year, you look at all the names, guys who have won it, especially last year; Pete Uihlein, so at least we can keep it in the house.”

Brooks was a three-time All American at Florida State University.  He won three times on the European Challenge Tour, earning him an invitation to play the European PGA Tour in the 2014 season.

A 4th place finish at the 2014 U.S. Open earned Koepka his 2014-15 PGA Tour card and an invitation to the 2015 Masters.

His 2014-15 PGA Tour season is off to a hot start with consecutive top 10 finishes at the Frys.com Open and the Shriners Hospital for Children Open.

The scouting report on Brooks says he is plenty long off the tee (averaging over 300 yards) and is a good putter.  In fact, the European Tour tweeted Koepka’s average off the tee to be 363 yards for the 1st round of the Nedbank Golf tournament this week.  His primary weakness is said to be the short game.

Brooks Koepka’s stock is very much on the rise.  He has made waves at every stop on his climb to the PGA Tour.  He’s yet another component of what is shaping up to be an intriguing season for the PGA.
