Feherty Signs With NBC, Golf Channel

The speculation has ended in regard to where David Feherty will land after contract negotiations with CBS broke down roughly two weeks ago.

Feherty has signed an exclusive deal with NBC Sports Group.

The deal will have 57 year-old personality on the course and occasionally in the booth for NBC and Golf Channel PGA Tour broadcasts.  The deal preserves his self-titled, Emmy-nominated interview show, “Feherty”.  The shows “Golf Central” and “Morning Drive” will now feature Feherty as a regular guest.  He will take part in the Olympics when golf returns to the competition in 2016, the Ryder Cup, and The Open Championship starting in 2017 when NBC takes over broadcasting duties.

NBC Universal also reserves a “first-look development deal” in the contract, which would apply to non-sports related shows in the future.

“I’m really looking forward to this next step in my career, but I’ll miss a lot of people who have had my back for nearly 20 years,” said Feherty.  “And to be honest, I’m on the verge of soiling myself.”

Feherty spent 19 years at CBS as the on-course reporter.  Varying reports said the talks broke down over CBS’ reluctance to put him in a tower and/or the amount of money the wildly popular contributor was seeking.

CBS held exclusive negotiating rights for two weeks after the expiration of the existing contract.  NBC snatched David up as soon as that window closed.

The remainder of the calendar year will be spent filming next seasons’ episodes of his interview show, “Feherty”.  He also plans to have surgery for arthritis in his hands and a procedure on his shoulder.  His new contract begins in January 2016.
