How to Play Whistling Straits Golf Course

It seems to be that every golf course that hosts a PGA tour event immediately gets a huge boost in the average public wanting to play golf there. Whistling Straits on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin is no different.

Formerly host of the 2004 and 2010 Championship, the great Straits course is back for another 4 rounds of battle.  Hopefully, it does not end in controversy like it did in 2010 with the Dustin Johnson penalty.

So how can you play an affordable round of golf at Whistling Straits?

The first thing to know is that there are two courses. The Straits and Irish.  Is the Straits 2x as good as the price indicates? Well no, but it has had a major championship so they can charge those fees all day long.

This is a pure public course, meaning you can get on almost anytime you want when you schedule a tee time. Now, they may be booked or closed for various events, etc., but you have the ability to do it.

Now, some will say the cost is a bit high, but that is nonsense. If you are reading this article you want to play. Even if it runs $500 total, just play a few less $50 rounds at your local courses and call it even.  And while it is required on the Straits course to get a caddie most times, do it at both courses, even if you do not have to. It is old school but you will probably play better with one. And it supports the growth of the game.

Note: The below prices at Whistling Straits are current, but may be changed without prior notice.

Straits Course

Greens Fees – $385

Twilight Greens Fees – $270

Caddie – (Mandatory at pre-twilight times) and Don’t forget the tip!  $65

Carts – No, you are walking

Irish Course

Greens Fees – $190

Twilight Greens Fees – $135

Caddie- Not required, but recommended.  $65

Forecaddie – Not required.  $35

Carts – $30 normal and $15 twilight

You can also rent clubs at both courses for $90.   They get a lot of travelers who do not want to bring their own clubs. They also have some golf packages that if you are interested in they may be able to help you.

Also, be sure to take plenty of extra supplies! You will need it, the courses are beautiful but extremely hard!

Johnny Giovonni

Hi, my name is Johnny Giovonni. I am in the financial services industry and own my own business on the side. I work too much and golf too little. That is why I helped create this site, so I could at least have the dream of golfing everyday. Also, I am a huge numbers person and have researched many advanced gaming theories and other nerd stuff like the Rule of 72 and Benford's Law. When I am not working I am either golfing, watching sports, or researching statistics for my weekly and daily fantasy picks. I am under full belief there is an enormous advantage to be had with information when picking your lineups every week. I hope to bring that knowledge to this website. I look forward to writing and responding to your comments. Check out some of our course reviews, fantasy sports picks and as always, provide any feedback!
