John Daly playing golf on a Sunday isn’t normally going to make headlines. His round of golf on this past Sunday is worth mentioning because it comes one day after Daly passed out on the golf course with a collapsed lung and was rushed to a hospital.
The two-time major champion was playing in a local tournament at Deerfield Golf Club in Canton, Mississippi on Saturday when he lost consciousness on the 18th hole. His playing partner that day, Will Dottley, told the Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard:
“I had my arm around him when he went down. He had no pulse and wasn’t breathing for close to three minutes.”
Daly was rushed to Baptist Medical Center by ambulance. X-rays revealed no major issues aside from the collapsed lung. JD was treated and released that night.
Bud Martin, Daly’s manager from Wasserman Media Group, claimed in a statement claims the incident stems from a rib injury sustained in 2007 at the Honda Classic. Daly is still suing the PGA Tour and the tournament over the injury. JD alleges a woman jumped out of the gallery to take a picture of him as he teed off. Daly tried to stop his swing, but hit the ground behind the ball, cracking two ribs and separating his shoulder in the process.

Daly’s hand was taped during Saturday’s round. Daly would later say his hand injury forced him to alter his golf swing, which then aggravated the ribs causing the collapsed lung.
Daly Teed It Up The Very Next Day
After his release from the hospital, Daly returned to Deerfield Saturday night. He was seen smoking cigarettes on the balcony and socializing with his fellow golfers on Sunday. And in true John Daly-like fashion, he made his tee time that Sunday afternoon.
