Panel From Plane Falls From Sky, Lands on Golf Course

It’s one of every golfers’ biggest pet peeves, the group behind hits in to you without yelling “fore”.  What about when the plane flying overhead hits in to you?

American Airlines Flight 1910 from Dallas was preparing to land in Charlotte when a metal panel dislodged from the aircraft and fell to the ground.  At the same time, three men were playing the 7th hole at Green Meadows Golf Course in Mount Holly, NC.

WBTV reports the panel door landed next to the green.  According to the report:

A WBTV viewer says he was golfing with two other men at the Green Meadows Golf Course when they saw an object “falling from the sky, twirling around in circles and land approximately 40 yards to the right of the green” near the 7th hole. It happened around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

The panel covered a maintenance section of the Airbus A321 and posed no risk to the aircraft when it fell off.  Flight 1910 had 146 passengers and landed safely in Charlotte 20 minutes later.

The golfers contacted the Federal Aviation Administration about the 15 inch panel, as did American Airlines.  The FAA is investigating the incident.
