Johnny G’s 2015 Week 1 NFL DraftKings Running Back Sleepers

The first week of the NFL season is almost here.  In a series of weekly posts, our goal is to provide the best fantasy football lineups and advice for people playing in all types of leagues.

This post will focus on running back (RB) sleeper picks for the week.  All these players will have DraftKings salaries under $6,000.

DraftKings Sleeper Running Back Fantasy Picks for Week 1

PositionNameTeamSalaryProjections
RBMark Ingram Saints5600Even though they are going against a strong Arizona defense, expect Ingram to punch the ball in once with around 80 yards for the game. A good value here.
RBAlfred MorrisRedskins5500This is a home game for the Redskins and with Cousins starting they will want to establish the run early in this winnable game against the Dolphins. 90 yards and 1 TD.
RBRashad JenningsGiants5100Dallas does not have a great run defense and I think this game will be high scoring. I like Jennings to get around 10 - 12 fantasy points in this one.
RBDarren McFaddenCowboys4400At this price I think he is worth it. He might get 10 -1 5 touches and should get carries inside the five. A risk, but there is a reason he is only 4,400.
RBDanny WoodheadChargers3700Remember him? He got hurt early last year and never returned. But now, with a rookie as the main RB, Woodhead will be in the game a lot. Expect passes to come his way too. A great value here.

A few tips for what I look for in a sleeper or long shot pick of the week:

  1. A good match-up versus the other defense.  If a guy is valued low, there might be a reason. Shut down corner backs and great defensive lines make me scared.  Look for a value play based on a bad defense or an injury.  Sometimes the daily fantasy leagues post the values early before important information is available.

2.Do not stretch too far.  I guy may sneak in for a touchdown the week before, but that does not make him a great play at      3,900.  Look for patterns and ask yourself “why?”.

Good luck!
