The fall leg of the tour moves to Las Vegas this week for the Shriners Hospital for Children Open. TPC Summerlin is the host again this year.
A par 71 and 7255 yards, Summerlin ranked as one of the easier courses last season. The greens are large and slow (11 on the Stimpmeter), so expect a shootout. Defending champion Webb Simpson tied the course record last year, winning the tournament at 24-under par.
This Week’s Fantasy Picks
Martin Laird won this event in 2009, lost in a playoff in 2010, and finished 3rd last week. Sign me up!
Ryo Ishikawa finished in the top 20 last week and was runner up to Webb Simpson last year. Again, I’m going with the hot hand.
Retief Goosen seems to be feeling like his old self again. On his way to finishing 3rd last week he ranked 1st in strokes gained putting, leading to the 2nd most birdies for the week. Goose is still banging the driver out there 298 yards too! Have Goosen and Kuchar ever been paired together? That’s a gallery I want to hear.
Jon Curran had an excellent week at the Frys: T8 finish, low rookie, top 10 in strokes gained tee-to-green, and 1st in greens in regulation.
Frys.com Open Fantasy Wrap Up
Only a fair showing for the first week in the 3 Jack Almanac league (There are a few spots still open if you want to join us. Click here, sign up, search for 3 Jack, then let us know you joined.).
My only top 10 came from Brooks Koepka at T8. A good start to the season for the newcomer. This definitely won’t be the last time I pick him.
A Saturday 73 was the only mark on a solid week for Cameron Tringale. T26 is not quite good enough to stop being best known as “Rickie Fowler’s roommate” though.
Jason Kokrak couldn’t get the low round he needed. He shot in the 70’s all 4 rounds, and his 3-under par earned him 46th place.
You had one job, Chris Stroud! A pair of 75’s left him out of the weekend.
My picks earned 143 points, which has me in 3rd place, just a handful of points ahead of Johnny G.
Good luck this week.
