I remember, back in the day, when you had to make your own rules if you wanted to play fantasy college football (CFB). We would play with point differentials between teams and total points would take the weekly pot. We would draft around 10 teams and play 5 teams each week.
Those September games like Nebraska vs Akron and FSU vs Anybody used to win you weeks. But you had to do all the scoring and everything by hand. Also, back in the day you would have to actually find the scores of some of the games! This was before the internet and not all newspapers would have the scores. What a hassle.
Not any more.
With DraftKings daily fantasy sports you can just sign up and play one week at a time. Simple and effective. Where was this 20 years ago?
Want to read more? Go ahead. Feel free to sign-up below too, there are many free contests and bonuses so you can play for at little as 25 cents a week if you choose to do so.
Let us start with a simple overview of the rules for the lineups:
Like the other DK contests, you get a $50,000 salary cap to choose from your players. Note, the players will consist of the major 6 conferences and other key games only. You will not be able to just pick any old player playing some division III school.
You pick a 9 player roster made up of the below positions:
2 QB – With this kind of setup you better get some big time scorers here. Yes 5 TD games can be very common in college.
2 RB – Again, you need to make your bread here and get a guy or two with at least 150 and a TD per game. This is not NFL, these guys will put up huge numbers week in and week out.
3 WR – Want to play aggressive? Then match your WR with your QB.
2 Flex (RB or WR) – You have to pick based on match-ups here.
There are NO defenses picked with the CFB contests, which is different from the NFL contests.
Also, non-conference weeks can have huge scores, but it can be like normal pro fantasy in conference games. You have to kind of learn how CFB works because it is different. But that is where I can help you along the way with Johnny G’s College Football picks of week. Stay tuned my friends.
Scoring:
Like most FFL leagues, scoring consists of both scoring and yardage points.
Quarterbacks will earn 4 points for each passing touchdown and running backs and wide receivers will earn 6 points for each rushing or receiving TD. There are also 300 yd and 100 yd bonuses awarded too. Players will also lose points for fumbles and interceptions, but that is not really a huge deal in such a high scoring system like this.
Conclusion:
The format is just like other leagues most of us have played in over the years, it is just now it is so easy to do and the website does all the work for us. I highly recommend giving it a shot! I hope to post some good start’em vs sit’em lineup articles throughout the year!
