Fantasy Golf Picks: CIMB Classic

This week starts an international stretch for the PGA Tour.  Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia hosts the 2014 CIMB Classic.  Ryan Moore is the defending champion having defeated Gary Woodland in a playoff last year.

Only 78 players are in the field this week.  The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, so 10 spots in the field are reserved for Asian Tour players.

The course is a par 72 measuring 6985 yards, but the scores won’t reflect pros playing on a typical sub-7000 yard track.  Kuala Lumpur plays tough.  My strategy this week is fairways and greens.  I’m leaning towards the ball strikers.

Be confident that all your picks will make the cut this week, because well, there is no cut.  Down to business:

This Week’s Fantasy Golf Picks

If we had to pick the best ball striker in the bunch this week, Lee Westwood would be at the top of my list (Sergio is a close 2nd).  I’m not a fan of the season he had last year, but he’s won on this course before.

Patrick Reed has been in Malaysia for a while already, so I like that he’s acclimated to the time zone.  He seems to have no problems playing well in different countries.

A top 25 in Perth last week is enough for me to choose Jason Dufner this week.  This is only his second start since the PGA Championship due to bulging discs in his neck.  Last week was very encouraging for fans hoping for a strong return for The Duff.

Fairways and greens are what I’m looking for.  K.J. Choi is a machine and I’m certain I won’t use him 10 times this year, so I’m looking at him as a safe play here.

The McGladrey Classic Wrap Up

Big points from Chris Kirk last week.  T4 got 109 points for the cause.  Matt Kuchar (T22) was solid with a top 25.  Bogey on the 72nd hole hurt a little.  T41 for Webb Simpson wasn’t a total loss either.  Now Scott Brown on the other hand, didn’t have a good week.  A 5-over 75 on Friday sent him packing, missing out on the weekend.

Good luck with your fantasy golf picks this week.
